Preventative maintenance ‘essential during colder months’

The summer is over and the change in climate can have a significant impact on a car, meaning drivers should be thinking about preventative maintenance.

That is according to Mark Thorsby, executive director of the International Car Wash Association, who told saultthisweek.com that regular washing and the use of car exterior care products will keep a motor looking fresh despite the harsh conditions.

One area to consider is the wheels, as brake dust and dirt can begin to corrode the wheels if left on too long, which could encourage some to invest in alloy wheel cleaner.

Also, acid rain can damage a car's paint job, meaning car waxes are an important car exterior care product for drivers to invest in.

"All vehicles, regardless of the finish, require regular washing throughout the year, just like a good maintenance program prolongs the life and performance of your car," he told the website.

Recent research from Diamond found that 61 per cent of men clean their motors at least once a month compared to 46 per cent of women.
