Men ‘are clueless when it comes to car maintenance’

More than 41 per cent of men admit to not even trying to wash their car, according to a new poll.

A survey conducted by found that many men are clueless when it comes to maintaining their vehicles, with 58 per cent admitting they have no idea how to look after them or what is under the bonnet, the Press Association reports.

Nearly one-third of gents refuse to carry out even the most basic tasks to ensure their car runs well, with 30 per cent claiming they are embarrassed about their lack of knowledge.

Paul Coulter, spokesman for the website, said the figures are surprising.

"You would assume that men in particular would at least know the basics about how a car works and how to look after it but this simply isn't the case," he added.

In an entry on the Instructables blog, the firm said the main steps are spraying down the vehicle, washing with car shampoo, drying with microfibre cloths and detailing the wheels.
