Meguiar’s reveals key winter maintenance steps

The UK is in the grips of a cold winter with snow and ice threatening vehicles and drivers but motorists can protect their cars from the elements with a few simple steps and car exterior care products.

Detailing firm Meguiar's has given a series of tips to the Hot Rod blog, with the first thing being to prepare all the glass with the Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit to remove bonded debris and allow water repellent to work effectively.

Motorists must also clean the vehicle on a regular basis using car shampoo, while the headlights should also be washed and kept clear using Meguiar's PlastX to allow for greater visibility.

Wheel care is important as well during harsh weather conditions and Meguiar's Hot Rims alloy wheel cleaner should be employed to protect the rims.

Kevin Wellman, estimator at Dutch Miller Chevrolet Body Shop, told Irontontribune.com that sponges should never be used on cars during winter, with microfiber cloths a better alternative.
