Individuals planning on sprucing up their motor in time for spring by applying car wax might want to make sure they perform the job while in the shade.
This is because Consumer Reports has noted a thorough washing and drying away from the sun is one of the most important points to remember when waxing a vehicle.
The website stated: "Sun can soften the paint and make the finish more susceptible to scratching."
And motorists may want to make sure they use microfibre cloths when washing their car, as the portal claimed rags can trap dirt and could scratch the surface.
It explained that washing and waxing should be carried out in small sections as this can save time and prevent the wax staying on too long – in which case it may become harder to remove.
Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council, recently suggested clear headlights are essential in spring, not just winter – which could result in drivers soon reaching for car plastic polish.
