IAM joins chorus urging drivers to get ready for freezing weather

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has become the latest body to warn drivers of the importance of windscreen cleaner and anti-freeze in sub-zero temperatures.

Following Autoglym’s recent warning that windscreen cleaner is an essential car exterior care product, the IAM is urging motorists to heed this advice, with snow expected to fall on the UK in the next few days.

“Bad weather can strike quickly and more severely than you expect, so now is the time to give your car a health-check before winter conditions take their toll,” Peter Rodger, chief examiner at the IAM, said.

Among the tips offered by the organisation is ensuring that sufficient windscreen cleaner is in the reservoir, while drivers must make sure that wipers are switched off when they start the ignition, as if they freeze in the ‘on’ position then they could blow a fuse.

Paul Caller, chief executive at Autoglym, said recently that preparing a car for sub-zero temperatures takes only a matter of minutes but the protection will last for a long time.
