Most drivers like their car to sparkle when they drive down the road but in order to achieve this, they need to put in the elbow grease and use the correct cleaning products.
While in the old days people used washing up liquid to clean their motors, it is now known that this can wreak havoc with the paint job, stripping the wax off and leaving it exposed to the elements.
But it is not all about the tools employed, as technique is just as important for making a vehicle look as good as it did the day it left the showroom.
Lauren Fix, the Car Coach at Your News Now, has outlined a series of measures motorists can take to ensure their pride and joy is the cream of the crop.
Drivers need to keep in mind the 4 W's – washing, wiping, windows and wheels.
With regards to the first step, Ms Fix stressed the need to clean the vehicle from top to bottom, using car shampoo and a chamois to get rid of tough dirt.
She recommended using bug remover and tar remover to get rid of any stains that may spoil the overall look.
Moving on to the windows, glass cleaner should be employed to ensure a great finish.
Finally, Ms Fix suggested using alloy wheel cleaners to remove brake dust and other grime which has become baked onto the rims.
Editor of Samarins.com Vlad Samarin said recently that for the most impressive results, drivers should apply car waxes when the body is cool and the car is parked in the shade.
"It's easier to wax your car when it's cool to the touch, preferably somewhere in the shadow," he added.
