Detailing experts reveal five steps to a gleaming motor

There are five key steps which drivers must take if they want to give their car the best clean possible.

Flawless Detailing Dallas said in an entry on the Instructables blog that the first thing motorists must do is spray the car down, including the tyres, wheels and the entire body to loosen up dirt and dust.

Step two requires car shampoo, a microfiber cloth or sponge and car cleaning brushes, with the company stating that a generous amount of soap should be mixed with water and applied with the sponge.

"Do not use dishwashing soap … dishwashing soap will strip wax off your vehicle and leave it looking dull after a wash," the experts said.

The third requirement focuses on the wheels, with the firm recommending washing with soap and a brush, which will make them easier to detail later on.

Drying the car off is the next step, with the experts stating that a non-abrasive towel – such as a chamois leather – should be used.

The final phase is to go around the vehicle and double check that all the dirt has been removed from the wheels and any nooks and crannies.

Those who want to add some more lustre to their wheels may wish to invest in Meguiar's Hot Shine Tyre Spray, which will make the rubber look as good as new, according to Rory from Car Valeting Pro.
