Cleaner cars to improve road safety?

Motorists looking to improve their road safety may want to get out their car polishers and car shampoo, following the findings of new research.

Carried out by, the study revealed the poor state of many vehicles in Britain is responsible for a considerable number of traffic accidents.

The investigation found almost a fifth of drivers have been involved in a collision caused by a cluttered car, while half of road users admitted they only clean the inside of their motor once a year.

Gareth Kloet, head of car insurance at, said: "Untidy cars are literally littered with potential dangers on the road."

The website has teamed up with The Only Way is Essex stars Jessica Wright, Sam Faiers and Nanny Pat to launch a car clean initiative – which may see people making use of windscreen cleaner and car brushes – to highlight the problem.

Writing recently for Indian Drives, Lijo Mathani advised motorists to apply car wax in a circular motion while the motor sits in the shade.
