Cars ‘can last for 10 years with the correct care’

Apart from wanting the latest style, drivers have no reason to change their vehicles provided they maintain them in the correct way.

Bill DeBever, owner of the California-based Transhine Auto Detailing, said that keeping a car for a decade makes good financial sense and motorists can achieve it through regular maintenance and care.

Among the tips he recommends is applying car wax to the bodywork every three months or so.

"By the time your vehicle has 20,000 miles on it, it should have four coats of wax. Waxing gives the car a micro-thin layer of protection from the elements," Mr DeBever stated.

He went on to add that the older the motor becomes, the greater the level of car exterior care needed, with Mr DeBever claiming that polishing it every year or so will help the paint maintain its lustre.

According to Top Cool Cars, drivers should apply car wax in sections, as this will ensure the best results.
