The weather is likely to turn decidedly colder over the festive period and car care experts Autoglym are urging drivers to take steps to protect their cars before the big freeze sets in.
According to the company, motorists must ensure that they top up their screenwash reservoirs with a top-quality windscreen cleaner, while the rubber door seals must be treated as well.
Drivers should also make sure they have a glass cleaner in the car at all times to clean road grime from side windows and headlamps.
Another area which must be protected is the tyres, with a good tyre cleaner offering a barrier against the elements.
Paul Caller, chief executive at Autoglym, said that treating a car takes a few moments but the results will last a long time.
"Treating door seals and making sure that their car is topped up with a quality screenwash takes just minutes, while applying a top-quality wax treatment now will protect a car against road salt corrosion through until the spring," he added.
Cindy Sears, owner of #1 Express Carwash and Detail Center told West Life News that regular washing is essential during winter, as salt and grit can seriously damage the alloys and the bodywork of a vehicle.
