Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance – Tyres Review – Part 2

Tyres Review Goodyear Efficient Grip PerformanceFollowing on from Part 1 of this tyres review and knowing what can happen when a tyre goes I immediately looked up tyres review for a set of replacement tyres. I had a conversation with one of the guys at A-line Wheel Tracking who told me all about the new tyre ratings and how many tyres with excellent grip unfortunately had poor fuel consumption ratings and vice-versa.

At that point I then decided to research the tyres review sites to try to find the best tyre for both grip and fuel economy. So off to read as many tyres review sites as I could find.I soon stumbled across a tyre that looked to good to be true from the tyres review and sales sites. The Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance.

Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance Review

A new tyre from Goodyear that not only had an A tyre rating for grip but also a B rating for fuel efficiency.

Putting this into context I also looked at a budget tyre with a rating of C/C and also a similar priced tyre from Michelin which was rated A for grip and F for fuel. Not only had I found one with excellent tyre ratings but also a relatively low noise level at just 70dB. The ones looked at ranged from 68dB to 75dB.

Goodyear Efficient Grip TyresI asked the guys at A-Line to source the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance tyres for me but it would appear they were (at the time of writing) like gold dust. Even a call direct to Goodyear could not get any.

However more internet searching and I came across a dealer who could get a pair of Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance XL tyres 245/40/R18 XL, to me the next day for £160 per tyre + £10 delivery.

Now I know this might look fairly expensive per tyre, but just look at the size that I needed. Additionally, as my tyres are the last thing between me and the road I wanted to be sure I was putting my trust in a brand whose quality I believe I can trust.

The next day my pair of Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance XL tyres arrived first thing in the morning and I had them fitted the same day by the guys at A-line (£10 per tyre).

No sooner did I start to drive off than I noticed an immediate difference and what a difference that was.

Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance Noise

Talk about noise – what noise – I thought I had gone deaf. It was obvious just from the first few hundred meters that the quality of tyre makes an incredible difference to the road noise coming through your vehicle.

I was stunned and very pleasantly surprised by the sheer lack of noise which I had been subject to, since buying our cherished VW T4.

Clearly the previous budget tyres had been the cause of most of the noise and as they wore, it had got worse and worse to a point where it was unbearable. The T4 is once again a pleasure to drive.

Not only that the drive and the feel of the car is so much better. I would never have believed that a change to the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance tyres could make such a difference to the drive. It even feels like it rolls down the roads much much smoother.

And as for fuel economy, yes I have seen a small improvement – only a small one but its an improvement nonetheless. However what I have noticed is where I do get noise on various road surfaces it is coming from the front of the car – which still has the budget arrowspeed tyres.

As soon as funds allow I will be changing these to the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance XLs at the first opportunity.

From my recent experience of tyres I would not hesitate in recommending the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance and would say spending the extra is well worth the money not only from the difference it can make to the feel, drive and noise but also from the peace of mind it gives when driving – especially with the family on board.
