Is the Car Detailing Products Market Becoming Overcrowded?

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

In the last week I have received 5 approaches to stock new ranges of car detailing products, 2 of these I was already aware of as they have a small presence in the market, but 3 of them I have never previously encountered. So why the sudden flurry of new entrants to the market. For years the detailing products market was dominated by a handful of players including household names such as Autoglym & Turtle Wax. Then 10 years ago Meguiars entered the UK market and really started to shake things up with new and innovative products, more eye catching packaging and very targeted marketing aimed at those of us that took cleaning our motors very seriously. Autoglym Rapid Detailer Auto Express Best Buy Award Winner 2011

Autoglym Rapid Detailer Auto Express Best Buy Award Winner 2011

Auto Express have just published their detailing spray product test results, with the first place Best Buy Award going to Autoglym Rapid Detailer.

Commenting on the test Auto Express concluded this product “..is hard to beat. Simply spray it on and wipe with a polishing cloth. It was still beading water well after six weeks and is competitively priced”

The test comprised of sectioning the bonnet of a car that had been waxed and driven for a week before the test and was then washed and dried ready for the application of the detailers. Each detailing spray was assessed for ease of use, price and how well they beaded water over the next six weeks – which also included the latest of the big freezes we had here in the UK. A section of the bonnet was also left untreated for comparison.

Friday, November 26th, 2010

Having recently been asked by a close friend for ideas for a Christmas present for a car lover who has nearly everything, I immediately reeled off a list of the items I could think of. But looking at the bemusement on her face then realised that I was in fact reeling off my own, rather biased, wish list and not necessarily what her other-half or others would want or need.

So taking a step back I began to think about what others might be looking for – but where to begin? The answer didn’t take long – why don’t I take a good look at what our customers have been seeking for their friends, family and loved as the perfect gift in the run up to this and previous Christmas’s.

So through the data I trawled and finally armed with this research, I have put together are our top ten Xmas present ideas for the car fanatic in your life. (more…)

Best Car Polishes for Black Cars

One of the most common questions we get asked is what are the best car wax, polish and detailing products for dark or light, black, blue, red, white, green etc coloured cars.

It is possible to get detailing products with pigments in them for each type of colour, but these are not really necessary and are not particularly long-lasting, simply disguising the problem rather than correcting it.

That said when you get into the more serious detailing products there are a number that are designed for or work really well on dark cars.

The following list is our Top 10 of car polish and wax for dark cars. (more…)
